    Course of the war

    • Beginning of the war  April 12. 1861
    • Thanks to General Robert Edward Lee, the confederates are able to punch the Union at the beginning of the war
    • After the bad battle near Siloh the Union had recapture Kentucky and Tennessee and they had the safety aid from their gunboats on section of the Mississippi
    • Lee’s aim was Washington
    • On his way to Washington Lee was stopped at the battle of Gettysburg
     The battle of Gettysburg is one of the important battles in the American history
     In this battle the war got the big rebound
     75.000 confederates fought against 90.000 soldiers of the Union
     Lee wanted to force the Union into accepting the Confederation
     The winner was the Union and General Lee had to start a fallback to Virginia
    • After the fall of Atlanta, General Sherman (from the union) can start his offensive
    • Three weeks later he destroyed the confederates completely
    • The war finished and Lee and the confederate states capitulate at the 09.04.1865


    The consequences of the war

    • The war had positive aftermaths on the one side and negative aftermaths on the other side
    • The worst aftermaths are in the south, the south was totally destroyed
    • Abraham Lincoln wanted to connect the both sides for the unity of the land
    • The republican congress was against that
    • Five days after the end of the war Abraham Lincoln was killed by the southerner Wilkes Booth
    • Lincoln’s follower was Andrew Johnson
    • At first the military was the governance of the south with the influence of the republican congress and then a few politicians
